Why is my JSON invalid?

The most common causes are trailing commas, single quotes instead of double quotes, unquoted property names, comments, and JavaScript-only values such as undefined or NaN. JSON requires double-quoted keys and strings. The error message usually includes the position where parsing failed.

What's the difference between JSON and a JavaScript object?

JSON is a strict text format inspired by JavaScript object syntax. Every key must be a double-quoted string, and values are limited to strings, numbers, booleans, null, arrays, and objects. Functions, dates, comments, and trailing commas are not allowed.

Is my JSON data sent to a server?

No. Parsing and formatting happen entirely in your browser using its built-in JSON parser, so it's safe to inspect API responses that contain tokens or personal data.
